Easing Anxiety and Stress
Stress or anxiety can be a common complaint when trying to achieve a work/life balance and most people encounter it at some point. When stress or anxiety reaches a stage where it is overwhelming us or reaches a point where we are not coping well and our quality of life deteriorates then this excess or prolonged stress or anxiety can lead to illness, physical and emotional exhaustion, increased anxiety or even panic attacks.
When you come under excessive pressure from your home, work or social factors, you will tend to respond with either anxiety, anger or depression or a combination of all three.
Around 12 million adults see their GPs with mental health problems each year – most of these suffer from anxiety and depression, much of which is stress related.

Fears and Phobias
Fears and phobias can arise for a number reasons, but often they are formed from events we have found highly stressful in the past. This forms a template in our mind and our stress response is activated whenever something resembling and relating to this template is perceived. Common fears and phobias can relate to almost anything and most fears are irrational and so can be related to anything.
How Hypnotherapy can help……
With specific fears and phobias, for example, flying, spiders etc. general anxiety is reduced, then in a safe relaxed mind state, the emotional arousal is removed from the template that you have built, so that it does not illicit that same stress response. This is followed by a replacing the fear with a new, more positive way of reacting to that specific problem.
With more general phobias such as agoraphobia, vomiting, claustrophobia, and so forth, those, which are ever, present. General hypnotherapy is required to reduce anxiety and stress levels overall.
Nerves relating to specific future events are helped by guided imagery and visualisations whilst under hypnosis, to give you the confidence and control to be able to discard their nerves, feel more relaxed in the given situation, so that it will not affect your performance negatively, but rather enhance it.

Depression is perhaps the most common psychological disorder today – a significant factor in the break up of relationships, career problems and lack of motivation. Often, when it occurs, the individual will turn in on themselves and refuse to engage with others, pushing away friends and loved ones and have a general feeling of despair or inability to see how their situation can change for the better. Often it starts so gradually the individual doesn't realise anything is wrong, but they will start to withdraw more and more from living. Severity can range from being almost totally dysfunctional to having some of the symptoms associated with the illness such as:-
- depressed mood and sometimes fearfulness
- sleep disturbance
- loss of energy
- weight loss or weight gain
- loss of pleasure or interest in usual activities
- difficulties in thinking, concentrating etc
- negative thinking or forecasting the future
Some of the symptoms can be treated specifically – insomnia, eating disorders and lack of concentration are examples. Often depression is exacerbated or even caused by substance abuse – alcohol, drugs or cigarette smoking.
With appropriate hypnotherapy, depression is one of the most treatable disorders. It has a dramatically lower rate of relapse than with anti-depressants alone and is now considered the most effective treatment, even in severe cases, enabling the client to focus on solving problems and engage fully in life again.

Eating disorders, such as Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa and Binge Eating, are often an outlet for a range of emotions including anger, anxiety, depression and low self-esteem. Such responses can be caused by a variety of factors: a general inability to cope, psychological trauma, bereavement or difficult relationships. Eating disorders can develop as a coping mechanism in response to these stresses.

It is believed that over a third of the population suffer with sleeping problems according to the NHS.
It may be the case that you may have:

Along with this, sleep is our time for learning and memory when we enter our REM (rapid eye movement) dream phases of sleep. Sleep is also when our body replenishes and repairs itself, and the ‘happy’ chemicals like serotonin and dopamine are restored. Irritable Bowel Syndrome - IBS
Irritable Bowel syndrome (IBS) can affect as many as one in five of us. It is generally recognised by sufferers with griping pains and churning in the stomach, bloating, cramps, diarrhea, and constipation. This can then follow by individuals developing fears of being too far from the nearest WC, or avoiding certain social situations, and can have a major effect on our lives.
If you are suffering from IBS symptoms your Doctor should be your first port of call where possible. Once you have been diagnosed and the triggers have been found, whether it be sensitivity and pain in the gut, digestive problems, food allergies or psychological problems or a combination of all of these, we can work towards finding solutions.
IBS can be exacerbated by stress, and often doctors will recommend relaxation and hypnotherapy to help.

The secret of hypnotherapy is that it helps people to use their imagination to create a non-smoking future. This often feels very positive and empowering. Stopping smoking becomes the positive and definite choice and allows you to regain control, not only of your smoking habits, but of your life.
The only thing I ask is that it's your decision to quit, not a family member or friend trying to persuade you etc. As long as it's your decision then, with some people, hypnotherapy immediately becomes a very good tool to help you stop this negative habit.
The physical addiction to cigarettes is less than 10% – the rest is all in the mind, which can be re-educated!
Within the two-hour session it will be explained how you have created such a dangerous habit, as well as reminding you of the dangers of smoking, and how hypnosis can help you to stop. As long as you have a genuine desire to stop smoking, you could leave the therapy session a non-smoker, with no cravings.
